I am mesmerized by George Ezra’s voice, and I recently purchased his Wanted on Voyage — or should I say “carry-on luggage”? — (2014) CD to own. Being attentive to the message lyrics express, I double-checked that of “Cassy O”, marked as [Explicit] on the CD; snooping that lead me to some eyebrow-raising interpretations of the text. Whilst I can’t be certain about what George meant to convey, I propose an Occam’s razor approach to the text: replace “Cassy O” in your mind’s eye with “Casio”, the watch brand, and see where it takes you.

As one who often wonders whether she is wasting, chasing, or is lost in her time, I can relate to George’s potential time management concerns:

Well, I got my tracing paper, so that I could trace my clock
And the bastard face kept changing, and the hands, they wouldn’t stop
I was ripping out the battery, I received myself a shock
And to add insult to injury, I could still hear tick and tock.

Oh, Clock, you ruthless tracker of our days here on earth, how you cheat us when we gain and then lose a day as we travel long distance. Must you keep chasing us around in circles, or can we step out of the race?
